Fionn uses a variety of mediums to create texture, depth of colour and effect. Fast drying oils on an acrylic base produce the fluidity and movement of the sea, sky and ever changing light. She uses palette knives, all sorts of brushes and even kitchen utensils to create the desired effect

Fionn is a local artist who lives in Tynemouth having retired from teaching and then living in Spain. She loves everything about the north east, with which she is historically and genetically linked. Her parents were born and brought up in County Durham. She began painting about 12 years ago as therapy after illness and it has now become a passion.

The ever-changing north eastern sea and sky, the changing tides, maritime history and the shoreline provide constant inspiration for her pictures. it is always a challenge to try to capture the movement of the water - it’s nuance of colour and incredible shapes. She also depicts images of the north east that say so much about it’s past and it’s people, as well as the dramatic and evocative landscape.

She uses assorted mediums and techniques to try to capture motion and endlessly changing light. Many of the seascapes are mixed media using an acrylic base beneath oil to produce a greater depth of colour and sense of texture.
